Russ Courtenay, Chaka Khan and Del Afrique
We were in London doing a showcase for Harriet, and Taka Boom was one of the backing vocalists. After our rehearsal we were invited to go and see Taka doing her own gig — and who should be there, well, her sister Chaka Khan.
After the gig we went back to Chaka’s house and were treated to a private performance around her kitchen table, singing songs from her latest album.
It was an incredible experience for me, as Rufus were my favourite band and Chaka my favourite female vocalist. I cried when she sang Love Me Still, and she wiped the tears from my eyes.
